No Concept Design
A critique room for work that is not finished yet. Post the version you would normally hide, ask one specific question, and get an answer from somebody who does this for a living.
Why it exists
Designers show finished work. Portfolios, reels, case studies, the version with the good photography and the story already worked out. All of that is the wrong moment for feedback, because by then the decisions are made and what you get back is applause or silence.
The moment feedback is worth anything is earlier, on the version you have looked at so long you cannot see it straight. There is nowhere good to put that. So this is a room for it.
How it works
You post the rough version and ask one specific question. Not "thoughts?", which gets you nothing. Something like whether the wordmark feels heavy because of the weight, the spacing, or the size of the mark next to it. Answers come from working designers.
Mentors get a listing in a public directory with a followed link back to their own site, which is worth real money to a freelancer. They keep the listing only while they keep giving critique. The incentive is the point, and it expires.
Design decisions
It reads as editorial rather than as an app. Serif display type, rules and numbered sections, a masthead. CSS Modules and no UI framework, because a room whose whole argument is about unpolished work should not look like every other dashboard on the internet.
Reading is open to everybody. An account is needed only to post work or leave feedback, so the argument for the place is visible before anyone is asked to sign up.
One detail worth keeping
There is deliberately no rule that the first account becomes the administrator. That is a race anybody who reads a launch announcement can win. Admins are promoted from the terminal instead, which is slower for me and impossible for anyone else.
